Regenerating Sonora

# Regenerating Sonora, 501(c)(3) **A Natural Capital Initiative**

While the City of Phoenix is taking the lead, the Town of Superior is not far behind. Nonprofit Regenerating Sonora has organized a work team of passionate and capable locals who are partnering with Ed Williams to bring LEHR gardens to their community.

_Think Universally. Collaborate Globally. Act Locally_

Nationally, we have a soil health problem. Experts say we have less than 60 years of farming left if current rates of soil degradation continue. Unfortunately, depletion also means that crops grown decades ago were much richer in vitamins and minerals than the varieties most of us eat today. Locally, we have a food security problem. Pinal County's Child Food Insecurity Rate was reported to be 21.9% higher than an already too high national average. Thankfully, organizations like Local First Arizona, Good Food Finder AZ, the Copper Corridor Economic Coalition and the Gila County Economic Development Corporation have recognized the need for locally sourced food and have supported the development of farmer’s markets and putting forward toolkits, and campaigns to support related efforts.

**What’s needed now is greater local production of both healthy food and soil.**
